I'm beaten down. Big time from today's first workout. Workout 1. 4 miles warmup along the River Trail 5 x 800 on the Betzwood Trail Splits as follows: 1. 2:29, 1:00 rest (slightly downhill) 2. 2:32 , 1:00 rest (slightly back uphill) 3. 2:29, 1:15 rest (down) 4. 2:35, 1:25 rest (up) 5. 2:30, down 4 miles cool down. I am smoked. I was light-headed and very lethargic at the cool down run. The last 2 miles were very difficult. Pigged out at lunch. -------------- Thoughts during the workout. Staring down an interval workout by yourself on an empty road in freezing temps. God this is going to suck. Staring down the fact that 2:30 pace 800s hurt and always hurt. They don't seem to get easy which makes me feel uneasy. 1:00 recovery? Am I insane? It's already 40 seconds into rest and I've got my hands on my hips wearing my Cossack insurgent hat on. I'm LWS'ing. I'm dying. I'm blowing wisps of heated, oxygen debt clouds into the air. It's 1:00. The bell tolls for thee. Toe the line and eat shit buddy. I'm running my 4th one. The 2nd to the last interval is always the hardest. The sun casts a shadow from the fence onto the pavement making the appearance of a railroad track. Stay on track. Ride the rails. There goes the 400m mark. Listen to my breath? That long lost desperate hoarse breath has returned. There's my shirt on the fence. I'm done. 1 more to go. Last one. I'm done. I'm HOK'ing and a man walks by and sees that not only is my Cossack hat on inside out, but I've also got 2 strange holes in my OD polypro top. I look down. Oh yeah, those holes. Those are from the solder that dripped onto me when I tried to fix a broken pipe on my own with a propane torch, solder, and flux. I started an insulation fire, put it out, and called a plumber.

Nice workout. It will be a while before I can even consider trying 800s at that pace. Maybe you'll be lucky and get hematuria so that you can cross #21 (or whatever it was) off you list.
