Friday: Workout 1. 9.75 miles out in VF easy pace Workout 2. 1 x 1600 at the Penn Relays in 4:49. Cool down = 2.25 miles. 13 miles on the books. 77 for the week cumulative. Perhaps more to write later about the Penn experience. -------------------------------- There's a community garage sale going down in my neighborhood today. Vans of Mennonites have descended on the McRoads; stern men, driving in the front, gentle women, wearing their characteristic white, mesh headgear and plain dresses in the back. The van doors have now opened up and the Mennonites are grabbing up things like The Dirty Dozen on DVD--the one commemorating its 30th anniversary and containing uncut footage and the exclusive Lee Marvin interview. A Mennonite man stands in my neighbor's garage, peering intently at a VHS tape for "The Body Machine" complete with a faded, curling cover . His wife has mounted a first-generation stairmaster that's for sale for $20. Her skirt flies as she moves the handles and pumps the pedals looking around and beaming a subtle smile at no one in particular. She'll take it. Josie's made the rounds on her scooter and has thrown hard-earned quarters--her allowance for picking up Tippet's poop--at things like 3lb dumbbells and Milton Bradley games missing 1/2 the pieces. The dumbbells were curled 5 times in front of the mirror in the bathroom and then quickly abandoned; the games are stacked awkwardly on the table forming a leaning tower of Pisa due to their broken spines for covers, never to be played, unless we adjust the rules substantially.
