I'm on a roll.
Today, after work, it was absolutely vital that I take Josie to Barnes and Noble to buy Narnia. We've seen it in the theaters, but I have to own it. I love the beginning when the German bombers are dropping payloads over WW2 London. That's my favorite part. All the fantasyland stuff and the wonderful writing, it's good, but the dark Heinkel HE-111s--the best.
So we are rolling down the artificial promenade of the Exton Square market place, which, happens to be built over a farm and offers free tours of the ye olde barn restoration project....we are arm in arm. The day is brilliant; the sun has come out and the wind has hidden behind the horizon to the East, out in the ocean somewhere. Life is good.

Actually, my daughter is closer to grasping historical references than may be apparent from reading this blog. When asked by our next-door neighbor tonight what she enjoys, she responded: "I like to World War 1 and World War 2....well, World War 1 more than World War 2."
The neighbor didn't know quite what to say; she looked up at me hoping for support; unfortunately for her, she caught me beaming a broad, proud, smile; she quickly changed the subject to something innocuous, something impossible to connect to war, like birthday parties and clowns.

YES! Narnia, I also loved the opening with the bombers, true to the book. So pleasantly surprised overall, it could have really sucked, but the casting was excellent, we need to own it too. And Tilda Swinton, though exquisitely evil, was soo hot (showing my age I suppose :-)
I have read much of Greene's work and The Power and the Glory was my personal favorite. Hope you enjoy it. Actually enjoy is not the right word. Greene wrapped me up and and wrung me out with it. Might have to dig it out of the box in my garage and revisit it. I'm jealous of the fact that you're about to experience it for the first time.
I'll try to keep this short. I think I can speak for the majority of the ultra/trail community when I say that Mr. Karnazes needs to shut up and go away.
This guy is a solid "10" on the cheese meter. I caught him one morning on Cold Pizza and he was wearing a white wife beater shirt. We get it, your buff, so are a lot of other runners.
I read his book in about 5 hours, which means both he and his editor should be shot for publishing a book written on an 8th grade level. In his defense, I will say that the chapter covering the Wester States 100 was very detailed, much like a good race report from a good blog.
This guy sucks.
Sometimes, when no one's looking, I go over to an outdoor track and win a high-stakes championship race that may have been held there in the past. After all, Mr. Karnazes is running the Boston Marathon in the middle of October. I have no doubt that he'll.
