2:36:low. 6th overall. Pretty much a disappointing race. A 1:15 half then disaster. Felt like poop starting at mile 8 or so. Skirack beaten, game over. The end. Roll credits, now. -----------------------------------

Duncan....Eh! Just chalk it up as another sub 2:40 marathon. You will hit the sub 2:30, trust me. Take a good mental break and get ready to train with Joe and I. I think a key to our training will be those marathon pace runs. Let's get going!!!!

I know you're dissappointed with the result, but don't waste time pawning over it. You still won $200, right?

Sorry the race didn't go as you wanted it to. That sucks you felt like shite from 8 miles on. That's no way to bring on running 18 more. I'm thrilled to hear that you took Skirack down, though.

Looking forward to your later digestions of the race, the goods and the bads that you always publish.

Recover well and congrats, even though you might not want to hear that.

It's not a 2:30, but still a decent showing.

I'm impressed with the fact that you always give it 100%. There's no backing off and aiming for an OK race, you always set the bar high and go for it. Sooner or later you'll get there. Probably October.

Congrats anyway, Duncan. Still a heck of a race. The results have you with a 1:09:40 first half; is that incorrect? I'm guessing so, as it looks like at least one other split is way off--they have Tom Gudas listed with a 1:49 first half but a 2:46 final time. That's either incorrect, a helluva good second half (57 minutes), or some creative course navigation on his part. Funny that Matt Pelletier is from my hometown (Warwick, RI).

Huh, just skimming down through the first 50 finishers, there are a buttload of really off first half times, or a lot of people cut the course somewhere in the second half.

Sorry it didn't go as well as workouts indicated it might. The race came off well, but the time didn't. No matter what, it's all in the bank now, and you will draw off your preparations for this marathon in your next one.

Considering it was a jot day for the VT City Marathon yesterday - much carnage - you ran well. I feel for you when it comes to the heat, it's tough. I usually die when the temps rise - looking for a way to overcome it just like you.

Damn. Sorry to hear it was such a tough race. I don't have anything but typical attaboys and cliched get-back-on-the-horse aphorisms. You trained hard. You ran your guys out. Time to sit by the phone and hold your breath waiting for a sponsorship call from Skirack.

You are an outstanding example of perserverence and determination for a lot of folks. Job well done.

Good Job Duncan, but I'm not going to shower you with much more. (Take these comments as just something to stir the pot or shake it eratically). Dude, I think you're just having trouble "peaking on the day." The shape you're in right now is probably 2:25-2:29 but you're not hitting it on race day. I say this from my own experience as I know I'm in better shape than some of my races would lead me to believe. As Lydiard said...you don't know anything about training unless you know how to peak on the day. Until then, you're just a good athlete who, one day [in the season], will run a great race but don't know which day. In the marathon, it's too long to do "time trials" on a "regular" basis (as a 5k). So you probably won't get to see that on certain days, you were probably able to knock off a 2:20's time while other days, you were in 2:30's shape. You only get to test the shape on race day. The point? You're probably already there but just don't get to see it yet.

Duncan,

What were you shooting for? I know you weren't planning on 2:30 at this race. Sounds like a solid effort, especially after seeing your bloody shoe.
