8.1 miles in 57 minutes including 1 mile at 5:51 pace to shake it all out. Felt better after some relative speed (thanks for the idea Meghan!)
Deep soreness in right adductor, overall everything in the legs feels very tight still. I'm throwing eggwhites, bananas, vitamins, rest, Trent Reznor, and Heineken Light at the problem currently.

Is it just me or do the Healthy Kidney 10k pictures on the NYRR site completely suck this year?
Ok, there's like a minute video of the race this year, but it just ain't the same (by the way, it looks like Buster disses Fam. at the finish). Also, Buster is hauling ass and smooth as silk....
Editorial comment #4563: People that go out to the NYRR site and find the Healthy 10k video are the types that have the attention span and the desire to watch the whole race, so why not film the whole thing and throw it on the site for a week or so? This ain't the CBS Evening News with its perfectly timed segments according to the average attention span of cattle; we're talking distance runners here, yes, the types that read the Economist as well as most English newspapers with small typeface, written by cardigan-clad reporters who sip tea and solve nearly impossible cryptic puzzles under gray English skies.

Surreal Healthy Kidney 10k video moment of the day: Does the camera pan onto the Embassy for the United Arab Emirates at the end? Did they sponsor this race? What the hell was that all about? Does this mean that a fraction of the gas money I spent to drive to the mailbox on Saturday, when I was super hungover, goes towards promoting healthy kidneys?

Tonight go find all your PRs. Stare at them. Commit yourself to training to knock one off. I don't care how old you are or what your excuses may be. Train to try. Just one. Go get it--there's one that you can get. And if you fail, you've got one hell of a good story. If you succeed, you've demonstrated that you still have control over your destiny, despite all the naysayers.

Agreed. They should show the whole damn thing! I thought homeboy Fammy would take it. Oh well....all is well ends well.

I'm thinking of a phrase that starts "things that hit" and ends "too close to home."
How much did the United Arab Emirates embassy pay to have their name and logo displayed prominently twice in that video? And why?
Evan, I just caught that too and posted about it--very odd indeed. I suspect it's a PR campaign on their behalf to get us to keep buying oil and to demonstrate that you can burn fossil fuels AND live a healthy, active lifestyle!
Apologies to myself for clogging up my own comments space, but I just noticed that this UAE thing was recently added to the video. When the video used to start it showed the dude messing with his bib. Now it shows the UAE pan at the beginning and the end used to just show the ignored women's winner crossing the line, and now it's bookended with UAE again. Now THAT's a conspiracy theory.
The UAE has another motive as well, I think. Isn't that the country whose companies (or nationally owned corps) are interested in buying port rights in the U.S.? They're buying positive PR.
It actually has something to do with a member of the royal family who had a kidney transplant in NYC years ago and wanted to show gratitude. I found it a little confusing at the start being spoken to by UAE general something or other. I didn't find out how it all fit together until afterwards. It was a really well done race though.
Jack, thanks for clarifying this mystery. When I ran in NYC, I was always impressed with a NYRR-run event. I just never understood the UAE connection to all this.
I don't think Buster was dissing Fam. From the NYRR website: "Famiglietti, who had high hopes after running 27:37 for 10,000 meters on the track this spring, took third in 28:40 behind the fast-closing Mohamed Farah... Mottram, waiting at the finish, was thrilled by Farah’s performance; the two of them had trained together in Australia before this winter’s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne..." Looks like he was just psyched for his buddy.
By the way, let it rip in VT. You're ready for a big time PR.
Damien, thanks for the clarification on that. It just looked odd, but you can't fault someone who just busted out (pun intended) two, back-to-back, 14 minute 5ks to miss someone around the same pace at the line.
Thanks for putting up the videos. Could have been a longer video and showed the chicks too. Loved the "Fam" video. Who made that?
Didn't think Buster dissed Fam, just missed him as he congratulated his mate Farah. There might be more to it, who knows.
The Fam. video is a new instructional DVD that he's making. I think I'll be buying it. http://www.runfam.com/
I love the guy getting shoved forward at the start. Seems he was waiting to hear "...get set...."
